Chicago to offer low-cost distemper shots

A plan to provide pet owners in Chicago with low-cost vaccinations against distemper was approved Tuesday by the City Council's Health Committee. An animal control officer said the $7 shot program could result in 2,000 to 3,000 vaccines within a year and could help prevent a repeat of the fatal distemper outbreak in the city five years ago.
