Nevada completes bid proposal for second round of grant competition

Nevada is planning to increase the statewide graduation rate to 85%, overhaul its system for evaluating educators and create a task force to ensure public-school accountability as part of its effort to compete for federal Race to the Top funds. In its application for the grants, the state acknowledged its last-place ranking in the Education Research Center's Quality Counts 2010 study. "Yes, we know where we are, but more importantly this is where we want to go," said one superintendent who worked on the state's bid.
