SAP is acquiring database maker Sybase

SAP is spending $5.25 billion to purchase database maker Sybase, which will ratchet up SAP's competition with Oracle. The deal will enable SAP to power its business applications with Sybase's database software. "This will literally connect the shop floor to the corner office," SAP's Bill McDermott said.
