Results from state exams in Florida take much longer to receive than the results of Advanced Placement exams and SAT scores, writes National Board Certified Teacher Jo Ann Nahirny in this column. In an e-mail to schools, officials said a change in scoring and additional checks to ensure accurate scoring are the reasons for the delay. Nahirny writes that three months is still unacceptable. "While waiting for my students' FCAT writing scores to finally arrive, I'll be reading their latest essays so I can give them more individualized, comprehensive -- and timely -- feedback than state tests can ever provide," she writes.
