Higher risk of complete tooth loss seen with diabetes

Diabetes patients had more than a twofold increased risk of edentulism compared with their healthier counterparts, according to a study in The Journal of the American Dental Association. Researchers also found a higher percentage of tooth loss in patients who smoked than in those who did not. Low income and less education were also associated with complete tooth loss, researchers said.
