Japan posts thinnest current-account surplus since 1985

Last year's export slump narrowed Japan's current-account surplus to ¥4.29 trillion, the smallest figure since the reporting of comparable data began in 1985. The 2012 figure is down 43.6% from 2011, largely due to a record merchandise trade deficit.
