Some observers say the European Central Bank's lending policies have become too generous and that they've shifted banks' risks onto the public, but an analysis of the numbers indicates that the fears were likely exaggerated. Although legitimate concerns about the ECB's lending policies remain, the central bank's gamble on loosened standards appears to be paying off.
