DOT: Baggage fees bring in $1.15B in 2008

U.S. airlines collected a total of $1.15 billion in baggage fees last year -- an economic lifeline during a period of soaring oil prices and falling passenger counts. Even with the fees, "The first quarter for the industry is still a multibillion-dollar loss," says a spokesman for the Air Transport Association.
