Missouri House rejects education-reform package

The Republican sponsor of a bill containing a host of education reforms such as dropout-prevention programs and free community college says he was stunned when the Missouri House voted 116-43 to kill it, with a fellow Republican leading the charge. The package included other measures -- such as teacher merit pay -- that drew opposition from various factions, including teachers unions.
