Study: Gifted boys more prone to hiding academic achievements

Gifted students, especially boys, will sometimes "dumb down" to avoid being bullied by their peers, according to a study of some secondary schools in England. "Some pupils are able to maintain popularity with peers in spite of their high academic achievement," said Becky Francis, an education professor. "What appears to be a fundamental facilitator of this is their physical appearance, and for boys, their physical ability at sport."
