Videotron's Q1 operating income surges nearly 14%

Canadian cable provider Videotron during the first quarter added more than 13,500 basic subscribers as well as 35,800 digital-TV customers, 25,400 broadband users and nearly 39,000 phone lines. Overall, the company saw operating income surge 13.7%, and Pierre Karl Peladeau, chief executive officer of Quebecor, Videotron's parent, said that "the cable segment ... accounts for the bulk of the improvement in results."
