Amtrak chief executive Joseph Boardman is working to redefine the passenger railway's role in a new era of transportation. Amtrak stands to benefit from billions in federal grants, as well as a new public interest in rail as a travel option. The railway is investing in upgrading its Northeast Corridor, among other lines.
