ATA projects 1% increase in summer traffic

U.S. air carriers expect about 202 million passengers will travel by air during the busy summer season, the Air Transport Association said Wednesday, noting that traffic will be "very modestly ahead of last year." International travel should grow by about 7%, while domestic traffic remains essentially flat. Overall, the 2.2 million passengers expected to fly each day represent an increase of about 1% compared to last summer. "We would like to see more growth, but this slight uptick in the number of air travelers is a positive sign for an economy and an industry recovery," said James May, ATA president and CEO.
