EU's Barnier, US' Geithner seek harmonised banking rules

Michel Barnier, internal-market commissioner for the EU, and Timothy Geithner, US Treasury secretary, met ahead of an upcoming Group of 20 summit to discuss proposed changes to regulation of the banking industry. Barnier and Geithner said they are committed to a harmonised overhaul of the global financial system. The officials "reaffirmed their support for the principle of nondiscrimination and the importance of maintaining a level playing field".
