Expert: "Blend wall" to chill financing in cellulosic feedstocks

The ethanol industry's so-called "blend wall," or the theoretical limit for production under the current 10% blend restriction, threatens to freeze investments in cellulosic feedstocks such as miscanthus, switchgrass and corn stover, warns Robert Wisner, an Iowa State University economist and biofuels expert. In a bid to avoid the blend wall, the industry is urging government regulators to raise the blend limit to 15%. A decision is expected by August.
