Retail REITs enjoy strong quarter, pension-fund interest

Retail REITs are posting better first-quarter operating results and stronger store sales. At the same time, fundamentals such as occupancies and rents are stabilizing. Another sign of growth and optimism in this sector: More REITs expect to partner with pension funds to acquire new holdings. "It is encouraging to have an increasing number of first-class institutional partners which are actively seeking to invest with us in high-quality neighborhood and community shopping centers," Kimco President and CEO Dave Henry says.
