Study warns patients about taking supplements while on warfarin

Vitamin supplements that contain antioxidants, melatonin, gingko or fish oil enhance the effect of the blood thinner warfarin and could cause excessive bleeding from minor injuries, according to a study. "Typically, people take supplements with the intention of improving their health; however, many supplements can have an undesirable interaction with other medications," one of the researchers said.
