Verizon Wireless offers 4G to rural carriers for broadband service

Verizon Wireless says it can kill two birds with one stone by licensing 4G spectrum to rural telecoms, which can then use it to bring high-speed Internet service to unserved or lightly wired areas, executives said Wednesday. "These rural markets would take us a while to get to," said CEO Lowell McAdam in explaining the benefit of licensing a resource telecoms usually guard closely. The move could also prove a political plus for Verizon Wireless, industry observers noted.
