Young consumers boost candy and snack sales

Consumers between the ages of 2 and 17 ate more potato and corn chips, hard candy, snack cakes and chewy candy in 2009 than the previous year, according to NPD Group. Fresh fruit was the top pick for snacks, with yogurt, potato chips and hard candy among the fastest-growing sectors.
