Telehealth project in Minn. boosts care for heart patients

A telemedicine program to monitor patients diagnosed with congestive heart failure has allowed Essentia Health in Duluth, Minn., to stabilize its readmission rates at about 3% to 7%, compared with a national rate of 40% to 50%, as well as save $1.25 million in costs for 29 patients in six months. Experts at the AHRQ Health Care Innovations Exchange are considering ways to replicate the program at facilities nationwide.
