Analysis shows rising role of snacks

Americans in 2009 and 2010 consumed 24% of their calories in snacks, up from 12% in the 1970s, according to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. Currently, 56% of Americans say they eat three or more snacks a day, and 32% of kids ranging from 12-23 months old are eating chips, popcorn or pretzels on a regular basis and 19% eating candy.
