Berry supply keeps up as demand drives double-digit sales growth

Berry sales rose 11.2% in the 52 weeks ending Feb. 23, and volumes increased 6.6%, as production improvements helped spur supplies and contribute to a longer selling season, and taste, health and convenience made berries more attractive to consumers. In addition to rising retail sales, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are also showing up on a growing number of restaurant menus, said consultant Dawn Gray.
