Customer data is best for testing mainframes, but security is a must

Mainframe testing is best done with real-life customer data, as synthesized data is difficult and expensive to create, says Neil Richards, director of mainframe solutions at Compuware. But such tests require stringent attention to securing and protecting customers' data, especially if an outsourcing partner is doing the testing. Compuware's research shows many companies aren't taking necessary data protection steps.
