Study looks at transition to adult care with special needs

Only 40% of 17,114 parents of 12- to 18-year-olds with special health care needs were effectively preparing their children to transition to adult care, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. Effective transition to adult care was highest among girls, white and non-Hispanic children, younger children and those in families with higher income. Both medical homes and private insurance were linked to complete transition, researchers said.
