The Provost's Advisory Committee for Students at the University of Washington is proposing a 3% tuition increase to pay for a 2% raise for staff and faulty. The student-led group submitted their proposal to the university's Board of Regents. Salaries at the Seattle, Wash., school have been frozen for four years because of budget cuts. Administrators support the idea. "After four years, we really are at the risk of losing some talented people," said Paul Jenny, budget director.
