Weingarten shares how she would approach common core instruction

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten recently shared her approach to instruction under the Common Core State Standards. Weingarten said that, in the past, she would have used reading and writing exercises to teach students about the moral dilemma of dropping an atomic bomb during World War II. The common core, she said, requires examination of the topic that will take more time and research by students. "It's deeper thinking," she said. "It's a lot of skills [working] both with each other as well as individually."
