Wood sheathing, shingles last longer if attic is well-ventilated

The shingles and wood sheathing on a roof will last longer when the attic of a house is properly ventilated and insulated, writes Mike Holmes. A well-ventilated attic prevents the sheathing from rotting and reduces the need to replace the roof more often. An attic with proper insulation will also reduce the buildup of ice dams and save on energy costs, Holmes notes.
