Evernote spends less than 1% on ads per its 100 million users

Note-taking mobile application Evernote has experienced global popularity, despite spending just $1 million in advertising to acquire its 100 million users and counting. While most of those users tap into Evernote's original note-taking app, 16 million use digital sketchpad Skitch and 10 million use handwriting app Penultimate. Another 13 million represent the rest of Evernote's mobile app offerings. Revenue is acquired through premium subscription services.
