Wash. state county to use just one 9-1-1 backup number

A new emergency response plan for Pierce County, Wash., will reduce the amount of 9-1-1 backup numbers, publicizing just one 10-digit number. The previous use of multiple numbers led to confusion during a multistate outage in April, according to this article. "If our backup is one 10-digit number, I think that's about as easy as it gets," said Lowell Porter, the head of Pierce County's Department of Emergency Management.
