UNEP: Two billion trees planted as part of campaign

The United Nations Environment Programme said Tuesday that more than 2 billion trees have been planted as part of a UN campaign against climate change. The drive, inspired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai of Kenya and launched in 2006, included 700 million trees planted in Ethiopia, 400 million in Turkey, 250 million in Mexico and 100 million in Kenya. It also set a new target of planting 7 billion trees by the end of next year.
