Calif. penalizes hospital for fatal blood transfusion

Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in California was fined $25,000 by the state after health officials concluded that its staff caused the death of a patient who was given an unnecessary blood transfusion with the wrong blood type. Hospital CEO Jeff Nelson said the hospital regrets the error and that the two nurses involved in the case have resigned.
