Treasury shines spotlight on derivatives oversight

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner unveiled a plan to improve oversight of derivatives markets. The proposal includes federal oversight for major dealers as well as requiring credit default swaps and other over-the-counter derivatives to be traded on exchanges. "We need better broader authority, better information, and we need a better commitment of supervisory authorities to enforce those laws," Geithner said.
