Banks may push for global settlement on mortgage securities

Some legal experts are predicting Wall Street will try to reach a global settlement with regulators that have begun investigating how banks created, rated, sold and traded mortgage securities. The settlement may mirror a 2002 settlement related to the ratings agency system. Several big Wall Street banks are being investigated, but so far the Securities and Exchange Commission has only filed charges against Goldman Sachs.
