Government recovered $2.5B in Medicare overpayments last year

The U.S. government recouped $2.5 billion in Medicare overpayments last year as part of heightened attention on fraud enforcement efforts in the health care industry under the Obama administration. The Affordable Care Act also gives investigators new tools and resources to help crack down on fraud. The U.S. Justice Department and the HHS said they are assigning investigative resources in south Florida, Los Angeles and other areas where fraud is rampant.
