NYC creates 3-D map with laser technology

New York City is funding the creation of a precise, three-dimensional map of the city as part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's environmental initiative. Images for the map, which is expected to cost $450,000, were captured by lasers aboard a plane at 3,500 feet. Once complete, the city should have a good idea of where best to place solar panels.
