Stuyvesant Town tenant association asks CalPERS to join bid

Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village's tenant association is asking the California Public Employees' Retirement System to join it in making a bid for the apartment complex. CalPERS was an investor in Tishman Speyer Properties and BlackRock's $5.4 billion acquisition of the project and lost its entire $500 million stake. The driver behind the request is CalPERS' recent change in real estate investment policy to favor tenants benefiting from rent control.
