ASIC's Medcraft is sanguine about HFT and dark pools

Greg Medcraft, chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, said both high-frequency trading and dark pools have emerged as the "new norm." ASIC analyzed trading to see how HFT affects the markets. "On the whole, we found that some of the public perceptions about high-frequency trading in Australia appear to have been overstated, with no evidence of systematic manipulation by high-frequency traders," Medcraft said.
