Gartner: Android took 75% OS share in first quarter as Samsung gains

Android accounted for 3 out of 4 global smartphone sales in the first quarter, a gain of almost 20 percentage points from a year ago, according to a Gartner report, which said Apple's share fell to 18.2% despite selling 5 million more iPhones than a year ago. On the hardware side, Gartner estimates that Samsung Electronics accounted for nearly 31% of smartphone buys, a major step up from 2012.
