Gartner: Android took 75% OS share in Q1 as Samsung gains

Android accounted for three out of four new global smartphone sales in the first quarter, a gain of almost 20 percentage points from a year ago and double the actual number of unit sales, according to a Gartner report, which said Apple's share fell by 4.3 points to 18.2% despite selling 5 million more iPhones. Smartphone sales jumped to 210 million, while overall cellphone sales were flat. On the hardware side Gartner estimates that Samsung Electronics accounted for 31% of smartphone buys, a major step up from 2012 when Samsung and Apple were within 5 percentage points of each other.
