Sugar subsidies will stay, producers predict

Sugar producers voiced confidence that sugar reform will not be approved, despite growing opposition. The American Sugar Alliance cited a study which argues sugar-buying industries are doing well as the program stands now, but some say the study is misleading. "By looking at a small subset of sugar-using industries and publicly traded companies, the report ignores those that the federal sugar program hurts the most -- smaller companies and consumers," said Larry Graham, president of NCA and chairman of the Coalition for Sugar Reform.
