Study: Dormant pathways help in adult stem cell formation

Normal cells and cancer cells that go through an "epithelial-to-mesenchymal" transition in mice or humans gain the characteristics of adult stem cells, including self-regeneration, researchers found. The finding may help scientists to "generate unlimited numbers of stem cells committed to create a specific cell type."
