DOL: FMLA provisions don't absolve workers from timely reporting

Employees who need to take a family-related leave of absence on short notice must adhere to the usual and customary policy provisions of their employers when practicable, according to an opinion letter from the Department of Labor. Failure to notify the employer in a timely manner exposes the worker to company-specific discipline measures.
