Administration announces three advanced-manufacturing initiatives

The Obama administration plans to invest $200 million in an initiative to create three advanced-manufacturing innovation institutes. These centers will focus on digital manufacturing, lightweight composites and next-generation power sources. The Pentagon will oversee the digital manufacturing and lightweight composites operations as it expects they can lead to new weapon development as well as commercialized uses.
