Billion-year-old water discovered in mine in Canada

Researchers working in a mine in Ontario have discovered a reservoir of water they estimate has spent at least a billion years in isolation. The isotopes of gases in the water were used to date it. The water contains high levels of methane and hydrogen, and scientists are now studying to see if it could have harbored life.
