Boston region tops list for iPS cell patents

Eastern Massachusetts is in first place on a list of regions ranked by the number of patents for technology involving induced pluripotent stem cells. The area is home to 32 patents and was followed by California and Japan, each with 30 patents, and Madison, Wis., with 16. Among the Boston-area patent holders were Advanced Cell Technologies, the Whitehead Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University and its Immune Disease Institute.
