Buoyant markets lift Japanese bank profits

Gains on bond holdings and a surging stock market helped boost profits in the latest fiscal year for Japan's three top banks. Leading the group was Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group with a 53% profit gain that was additionally helped by the bank's consumer-credit business and a rise in outstanding loans overseas.
