Enerkem gets $1.1M boost for advanced-biofuel R&D project

The Canadian government will invest $1.1 million in a research project by Enerkem to develop new catalytic processes for turning waste into advanced biofuels, the company said. Enerkem will conduct the three-year project at its pilot-scale facility in Quebec with the help of the University of Sherbrooke. Meanwhile, construction of Enerkem's first commercial-scale facility is "progressing well" in Edmonton, with commissioning slated to begin in the summer, a spokeswoman said.
