French firm gains OK for human heart trial in 4 countries

Carmat has received the go-ahead in Belgium, Slovenia, Poland and Saudi Arabia to begin testing its artificial heart in humans. The French firm has yet to obtain approval in France for human implantation of the device, which reproduces the heart's muscle contractions and consists of two micropumps representing the left and right ventricles.
