Macy's boosts sales, market share

Macy's reported a first-quarter same-store sales increase of 3.8% and overall sales rose 4% to $6.39 billion, as it continued to take market share from competing department stores, offsetting slower spending by some consumers. "We are seeing some weakness among our more budget-conscious, what we call deal-hunting customers," Macy's CFO Karen Hoguet said.
