Uptick in demand bolsters homebuilder optimism

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo index of builder confidence has climbed to 44 this month, from a downwardly adjusted 41 in April. The increase is the first in five months, as buyers take advantage of low mortgage rates, local economies improve and inventory decreases. However, a reading of less than 50 indicates that more respondents perceive poor conditions in the market.
